Low glycemic index foods burn more fat
Most people like to burn more fat while exercising and also especially after. The study reviewed here investigated the effects of a breakfast containing high glycemic index foods in comparison to a breakfast of low glycemic index foods (Stevenson E.J., et al, 2009). The participants were healthy sedentary women which completed two trials. In one trial they were provided a high glycemic index breakfast 3 hours before walking for 60 minutes, and the other trial provided a low glycemic index breakfast before the same walk. Following the walk, the participants were provided lunch and were kept in the laboratory for two hours. They were tested for the glucose and insulin response and fat oxidation (the use of fat for energy) was also measured. Both the glucose and insulin responses were greater after the high glycemic index breakfast. During the 3 hours after breakfast, fat oxidation was higher following the low glycemic index breakfast. During exercise the total fat oxidation was also greater after the low glycemic index breakfast. Another benefit was that the participants reported feeling fuller following lunch when they had the low glycemic index breakfast. If you want to burn more fat, both during exercise and also afterwards, low glycemic foods are what you should eat. To learn more about the benefits of low glycemic index foods you can read either one of the books “The Food Connection”, or “Effective Nutrition for Effective Healing”. These books also have a lot of high nutritional low glycemic index recipes.
