Common vegetable reduces oxidative stress and inflammation in the upper airways.

Oxidative stress is considered an important factor in asthma. It is thought to be the main mechanism by which certain pollutants induce inflammation.

The body has defense mechanisms to combat these types of destructive reactions. One of the defenses are the Phase II enzymes involved in detoxification and antioxidant protection.

Sulforaphane which is a substance found in broccoli sprouts has shown to be a potent inducer of the phase II enzymes. The study referred to here investigated the effect of sulforaphane on the activation of the antioxidant substances in upper airways (Riedl MA, et al, 2009). This was a placebo controlled study and the sulforaphane was found to safely and effectively induce the mucosal Phase II enzyme expression in the upper airways of the study participants.

This was a dose dependent reaction and you have to eat a fair amount of broccoli sprouts to get the desired effect. If you don’t find it appealing to eat large amounts of broccoli sprouts there is an easier solution.

John Hopkins University has patented a well researched compound of sulforaphane from concentrated broccoli sprouts.

BioPro, Inc. TissueRecovery has a formula called “Antiox Detox Formula” containing this compound in capsule form which is easy to take. You can read more about it on our website www.TissueRecovery.com.

Wishing you the best of health,

Didrik
