Easy way to help prevent age-related macular degeneration

Studies have indicated an association between homocysteine and the risk of age-related macular degeneration. Homocysteine which is an amino acid has also been linked to other chronic diseases.

The research referred to here examined if vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid would reduce the incidence of age-related macular degenerations (Christen W6 et al, 2009). These B vitamins have shown to reduce homocysteine levels.

The study participants included 5442 female health care professionals 40 years or older with preexisting cardiovascular disease or 3 or more cardiovascular disease risk factors. The duration of the study which was placebo controlled, was 7.3 years.

The researchers concluded that in this study daily supplementation of vitamin B6, B12 and folic acid reduced the risk of age-related macular degeneration.

B vitamins are important for many other reasons as well. Folic acid is not metabolized well by everybody, for that reason the B-complex from
Tissue
Recovery, BioPro Inc. includes metabolites of folic acid.
